E-SAFETY CONCERN

We wish to draw your attention to a new app that has recently been launched aimed specifically at teenagers.

It has been identified by several organisations including 'Webwise' and Ealing Safeguarding Board as a potential danger to children. Described as ‘Tinder for Teens’, the yellow app allows users to make new friends using their Snapchat and Instagram accounts. According to media reports the app has been linked to a number of teen sexting incidents in Ireland recently.

Yellow - Make new friends app is available for Apple and Android devices.

It allows users to create a profile that links with their Snapchat and / or Instagram profiles. Users can override the age and parental control restrictions to sign up, meaning it is possible that adults can pose as children in order to access other users Snapchat and Instagram profiles.

It is well known that predators use apps that allow them to lie about their age to target children to obtain nude photos / meet for sexual exploitation / bully and intimidate them.
