There will be a new problem each fortnight with 3 levels of challenge:
- Level 1 is aimed at year 7 and 8
- Level 2 is aimed at years 9, 10 and 11
- Level 3 is aimed at sixth form students
Please write your answer on a piece of paper, along with your name and tutor group and hand it into the Maths office in the Jerusalem building or to Mr. Lawrence in J312.

Two adults and two children wish to cross a river. They make a raft but it will carry only the weight of one adult or two children. What is the minimum number of times the raft must cross the river to get all four people to the other side?
(The raft may not cross the river without at least one person on board)
A rectangle with area 125cm2 has sides in the ratio 4:5. What is the perimeter of the rectangle?
How many distinct pairs (x,y) of real numbers satisfy the equation
(x + y)2 = (x + 4)(y – 4) ?
