Cardinal Wiseman RC School took part in the SOAS (Routes into Languages) National MFL Spell Bee Competition at the European Commissions' Offices in Central London. The Year 7 students who took part were from French: Alice Pawluk and Varshika Duelas and from Spanish: Niamh Sexton and Karolina Marzelewska
The following students were asked to observe, after narrowly missing out on a place at the regional final: Alfie Doherty, Victoria Chimiewski, Angelika Zalecki and Oliwia Tometzcak. It was a stressful afternoon and all of the eight students were very mature and dealt with lots of changes extremely well. They coped under pressure and were a credit to us. We are particularly grateful to our MFL Assistants Eloise and Magaly, who gave up a lot of time to train the students. Alice Pawluck came 2nd overall in the French competition and Varshika Duelas won the overall French competition and will represent Cardinal Wiseman at Cambridge University in the grand final in July 2011, where she will have one minute to spell as many words as possible from a list of 200 in French. Congratulations to everyone involved. You were all wonderful ambassadors for our school community.
