Read more for important information for parents and students about the upcoming Year 11 Science exams and revision support being offered by the Science department
This is a crucial time of year for all GCSE pupils and I would like to draw your attention to the following information in respect to Science.
With only a few weeks remaining until their exams it is essential that pupils ensure that they are partaking in effective revision on a regular basis. Every pupil is at a crucial stage in the GCSE process.
Separate Science pupils have the first of their papers on the 10th June (Biology) to be followed by 13th June (Chemistry) and finally 18th June (Physics). This is their final opportunity to gain as many marks as possible to attain their final grades in each discipline, these papers are a transition to A Level and will therefore be extremely challenging. Pupils must show an extremely high level of commitment to the subject, take onboard all advice given and complete all tasks set.
Additional Science pupils will be sitting their final Unit 4 exam on the 5th June. Several pupils have been granted the opportunity to re-sit exams in order to enhance their grade and revision needs to be planned carefully to accommodate these. For re-sit pupils, please observe the following dates; Unit 1 (10th June), Unit 2 (23rd May) & Unit 3 (13th June)
Core Science pupils have been provided with another opportunity to attain a GCSE grade and will now need to channel all of their efforts into performing well in their Unit 1 (10th June) and/or Unit 2 (23rd May) exams. They have covered all of the topics in these units in depth, over a sustained period of time, and now their motivation and determination to succeed will be instrumental in their success this time around.
Entry Level pupils have done extremely well to complete the course, achieving gold, silver and bronze awards. We will be confirming on 10th May 2013 which pupils will be selected to attempt Core GCSE Science, so they must ensure they keep working as hard as possible to achieve this goal.
All pupils must ensure that in every Science lesson they are working with maximum effort and are then consolidating their knowledge at home. As you have been made aware, revision sessions have been provided for targeted pupils over the last few months, with the final phase being on Monday 13th May. As a department we will continue to offer as much support as possible and provide your child with every chance of success. A great deal of thought and effort has gone into planning the best pathway for your child in Science. We wish them the very best of luck, as at the end of the day, it is their individual performances in these exams that will carve their future for the next stage of their education, where we will always welcome back pupils who are passionate about Science.
