Durham Schools'' Debating Competition 2011
Congratulations to Year 12 students: Hermine, Laura, Charis and Aileen.
Congratulations to Year 12 students: Hermine, Laura, Charis and Aileen. They spent all weekend at Durham University accompanied by Mr. Bird and Ms Hollis for the largest schools' debating competition in the UK. It was a wonderful opportunity to debate a number of issues, meet students from other schools and stay at one of the UK's top universities. All of our students were fantastic in every respect and gained so much from the experience.
They have all come back full of energy, ready to promote debating to the school as a whole. Both teams won at least one of their debates, against some tough opposition and came 2nd and 3rd on many occasions.
The motions ranged from: 'This house would make football teams responsible for their supporters' behaviour' to 'This house would not jail mothers.' It was a lively two days in Northern England. A very well done to all involved.
