It was with great excitement our trusty trio of speakers, Ciara Gibbs, Francis Lali and Ben Shipman travelled to Bishop’s Stortford College on Saturday 22 March. They were taking part in the regional final of the Rotary Youth Speaks Intermediate competition representing London.

Throughout the day the standard of debate was excellent and The Cardinal Wiseman group performed excellently. Unfortunately the team was pipped at the post by St Bede’s Inter-Church School, Cambridge. Among the adjudicators was Rt Hon Professor Shirley Williams who provided the competitors with very useful feedback. The range of debate was impressive: debates on “Autumn and Summer Babies”, “Relationships” and “The Most Important 7 Seconds of Your Life” to “What is the point of School?” are but a few of what the audience was invited to share.

Special commendation goes to Ciara Gibbs who was awarded overall Best Chair and Ben Shipman who was awarded overall Best Speaker. The Cardinal Wiseman team intends to return next year.
