Year 11 Science

All students on the Separate Science course are due to take all of their exams for these qualifications at the end of Year 11, in the summer of 2015

Dear Parent / Carer,

All students on the Separate Science course are due to take all of their exams for these qualifications at the end of Year 11, in the summer of 2015. As part of the preparation for the upcoming exam series, an exam week was held at the end of Year 10, for each of the Science subjects. The outcome of this exam is being used to help students target areas requiring revision and to improve their study skills. As a department we discourage the memorising of mark schemes for previous papers as a revision technique. This can result in inflated grades and can mask any misconceptions students may have, preventing them from being identified which in turn will hinder progress. A certain number of the cohort have admitted to having prior knowledge of these exams before they were taken, I would please ask that you discuss your child’s mock exam grade with them to be aware if this is the case. Fortunately we carry out assessments regularly and are always informed of your child’s ability within the subject as we determine the most suitable path for the remainder of this year.

There will continue to be further testing taking place in science lessons this term to give a more up to date picture of our students’ progress on the course. Students that are persistently underachieving in lessons and assessments may be moved on to the Science Double Award after Christmas, if that is the most suitable path for them to achieve the best possible grades they can, both yourselves and your child will obviously be consulted in regard to this at the time.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me on 0208 575 8222 (442)

Yours faithfully

Mr R Dann
