Changes to the Merit Mark System

From September 2011 the school will be replacing the old merit mark system with a new software package to record positive & negative behaviour.

Following a successful pilot scheme, the school will be implementing a new electronic system for tracking and recording student’s achievements & behaviour, starting from September 2011. Using a software package called SIMs, teachers will be required to record your child’s achievements (academic & extra-curricular) and their behaviour on an electronic database. These will be recorded as ‘points’. Points will be awarded for positive (achievements) and negative aspects of behaviour, for example, submitting an excellent piece of homework would be worth one ‘Achievement’ point, whereas failure to submit homework would result in one ‘Behaviour’ point. Every half-term these points are collated, totalled and entered into your child’s organiser, so you can see how your child is progressing. These points will be used to reward pupils with certificates & prizes, whilst also helping to identify where some students may need targeted support. The school is currently exploring the possibility of giving parents on-line live access to their child’s achievement & behaviour points record (we will write to you in due course should this be made possible).

Should you have any questions arising from this matter, you should contact your child’s Head of Year. Thank you for your continued support.
