Your Life You Choose
The Year 7 “Your Life You Choose” day took place on Tuesday 10th February.
The Year 7 “Your Life You Choose” day took place on Tuesday 10th February. The theme of the day was “Anti-Crime” as we wanted students to learn about how the law works and consider the common causes and consequences of crime in London. Instead of following the regular daily routine, we collapsed the timetable for the day and invited representatives from a range of services: Magistrates, Police, Prison Service, Victim Support, and the Youth Offending Agency to present five different workshops. The students were divided into ten different groups, each group taking part in all sessions and coming together as a whole year group in a feedback session at the end of the day. The students learned about the criminal justice system, how the courts work, how laws have changed, how to avoid potentially dangerous situations, what happens to people once they are convicted of a crime and what support is available to those who have suffered as a consequence of crime. The presenters commented that the students were thinking deeply about the subject matter and asked intelligent questions. The Year 7 students thoroughly enjoyed the day and were all wonderful ambassadors for our school. We would like to thank all the visitors and staff who made the day such a success.
