Speak Out!

Edie brought many of our year 10s to the brink of tears

Jack Petchey’s “Speak Out” Challenge! is a programme run by Speakers Trust and funded by the Jack Petchey Foundation. They believe everybody should have the skills, confidence and desire to speak in public, and are dedicated to helping people of all ages and levels achieve this.  Following a training day run at Cardinal Wiseman in November, Edie Chesters (Y10) was selected as our school finalist to represent us at the Ealing Final.  The topic of her speech was “What is beauty?”  Given that she brought many of our year 10s to the brink of tears on the training day, we knew we had a powerful public speaker in our midst.  She was a fantastic ambassador for her school on the night, attending a pre-final training session then performing her speech in front of 100 friends, family and supporters.  We also had a representative on the judging panel!  Francis Lali (Y11) was a runner-up in the final in 2014 so was invited to sit on the judging panel beside the Borough Commander for the Fire service and other leaders from the police, politics and business.  The final for the  Jack Petchey “Speak Out” Challenge! will be held at London’s prestigious Piccadilly Theatre on Monday 4th July 2016.  Please see the website for further details if you would like to attend: http://www.speakoutchallenge.com/
