Strike News Update

Following ballot returns from the teaching and support staff unions we will be unable to open the school for classes on 30th November.

Dear Parents / Carers

I am sorry to inform you that following ballot returns from the teaching and support staff unions, it is clear that we will be unable to open the school for classes on 30th November. The exception will be that Sixth Form students are welcome to study in the Pallotine block.

The overwhelming majority of staff voted to support the industrial action against the Government’s plans for public sector pensions.

The risk assessment taken by the Leadership Team concluded that the gaps in provision resulting from the action mean that we are unable to offer any curriculum provision to students.

Other gaps relate to insufficient SEN support, Health and Safety cover and the full supervision of students at break and lunchtime. In view of the above students should remain at home on the day of action.

The school will remain open for administrative purposes. I regret the inconvenience that the closure of the school will cause. I am hopeful that the government and teaching unions may come to agreement over the coming weeks, in the interest of our children.

Yours sincerely

Michael Kiely
