Year 10 RE Classes
There will be a structural change in the way we group Year 10 students for RE lessons
There will be a structural change in the way we group Year 10 students for RE lessons after the Easter holidays.
This is as a result of a change to the GCSE course and in response to considerable research promoting mixed ability teaching as a way of raising children’s achievement. We have decided to move away from our traditional setting process and will be grouping the students in banded mixed ability classes. The structure we have decided on involves the creation of a mixed higher band and a four further mixed ability groups of students.
We would like to reiterate that this move is to aid the students’ progress in RE and the moves are not ‘up’ or ‘down’ as they have been previously, but a move across, to a new group based on target grades and working towards these targets with mixed ability peers. This will provide more peer leadership opportunities, as well as facilitating independent learning, which is essential for student success at Key Stage 4.
If your child is one of the many who will be moving classes, they will be informed of this by their teacher and details regarding the move will be placed in their planner before the end of term.
The exam specification that the school follows in Religious Education is not tiered. Please be assured that all students are entered in for the same GCSE paper and this move will not impact on their opportunity to achieve in Year 11.
If you would like to discuss this any further please do not hesitate to contact me.
We believe this move will have a positive impact on the progress and achievement of students in Year 10 and would like to thank you for your continued support.
