NUT Industrial Action Tuesday 5th July 2016
As you may be aware from the national news, the National Union of Teachers (NUT) has called for strike action on Tuesday 5th July 2016. The strike is over national disputes around pay and working conditions, school funding and pensions.
The Leadership Team has undertaken a risk assessment concerning the impact of the strike in the school. We have concluded that there are some gaps in provision that we are unable to fill, including teaching, SEN support, Health and Safety cover and the full supervision of students at break and lunchtime.
We are not yet able to confirm numbers of staff involved, but it is clear that the school will face some disruption. Therefore the school will expect to be open on Tuesday 5th July 2016 for Years 7, 8, 9 and 12. There will be no school for Year 10.
Advance notice of arrangements:
Students in Years 12 will have lessons as normal. There will however be no morning registration. Students should arrive in school 10 minutes before their first timetabled lesson. If their lesson is not running the usual study facilities will be open to them. Students will be able to go home at the end of their last timetabled lesson.
Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 should arrive at school at the normal time for registration and will proceed to class at 9.10am for their normal Period 1. Where there is no teacher to take the class students must go to J200 where supervised study will be made available. All students should therefore ensure that they have sufficient appropriate study material with them in case of this eventuality.
The school catering services will be operating as normal.
Year 10 Celebration of Success – as a consequence of the above the Year 10 evening has been moved to Wednesday 6th July, 6pm at Our Lady of the Visitation Church.
Once again, I have to express regret for the inconvenience that the part closure of the school will cause. I remain hopeful that this dispute will be resolved soon, in the interest of our children.
