The Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School

Careers

Here at Cardinal Wiseman, as part of the Well Being at Wiseman programme, we introduce students to the topic of careers through tutor time, lesson time, assemblies and enrichment days. The school provides pupils with access to an Independent Careers Advice Service via Connexions. Pupils have the opportunity to self-refer using the appointment form in their Homework diary.  In addition, the Careers Advisor from Connexions holds a weekly “drop-in” session in the library, one lunch-time per week; any student may choose to attend. Journals and other booklets on careers are displayed on a dedicated stand in the school library; these are regularly updated.   A notice board situated in the centre of the school displays information about career paths specific academic subjects can direct students towards in the future. The school uses its VLE (FROG) to present information from employers and educational institutions. We encourage students to use their independent study skills to research careers and pathways which may interest them. I am sure students and parents will find these websites and links very helpful.

Keeping safe online tip – Did you know?

When signing up to Facebook users are asked their age.  If they enter 13-18 their account is automatically set to semi-private (friends only).

When signing up to Instagram, users are not asked their age, and their account is set, by default, to public.

If young people are using Instagram, they need to find the settings and set their profile to private (“followers only”) and know who their followers are.

Instagram has a nifty feature which pins your photos to a “photo map”.  When you post a photo others can see where you were/are on a map. You might want to think about this and perhaps make sure the “Add to your photo map” option is switched off.
