All year 9 students will sit a Functional Skills public exam on Monday 4th February. It is essential that your son/daughter is present in school on that day as this exam cannot be taken at another time.
Year 9 students have been developing their functional skills by following the Functional Mathematics syllabus since September 2012; this is in addition to covering the required National Curriculum for year 9.
What are Functional Skills?
They are defined in DFE National Strategies as:
‘Learning tools that enable people:
· to apply their knowledge and understanding to everyday life
· to engage competently and confidently with others
· to solve problems in both familiar and unfamiliar situations
· to develop personally and professionally as positive citizens who can actively contribute to society’
All year 9 students will sit a Functional Skills public exam on Monday 4th February during periods 3 & 4 (11:05 – 12: 45pm). It is essential that your son/daughter is present in school on that day as this exam cannot be taken at another time. There are different levels within the functional skills syllabus and your son/daughter will be aware what level they are taking as they have had several practice papers including a mock exam last December.
