Preparing for University
Our Year 13 students have had a very busy start to the new academic year with UCAS and applications to university as their main focus.
Our year 13 students have had a very busy start to the new academic year with UCAS and applications to university as thier main focus.
The process was officially launched last July in our week long UCAS conference, but it started in earnest in September with a presentation from Jane Marshall, a Widening Participation Manager from Imperial College London. We invite Jane every year to deliver a presentation on how to write the perfect personal statement; in her unique style mixing humour and anecdotal examples she shows our students the 'do’s and the don’ts’ of personal statements. Through this presentation they learn that a personal statement is their one opportunity to show off and shine in their application. Jane also worked with a large group of our top achievers in an interview workshop, preparing them for typical interview questions they might encounter at Russell Group universities.
Currently, we have thirteen students putting finishing touches on their Oxford/Cambridge and Medicine/Veterinary Science applications, which need to be sent off mid-October. The rest of the students are busy writing their personal statements and getting advice from our strong team of subject specialist teachers who help them fine-tune this to their degree choices.
We wish all our students well in finishing their applications, and will be on hand for any help they may need.
