Headteacher's Advent Message

As we move through Advent towards Christmas there are two events on 9th and 11th December that you may wish to attend.

 Dear Parents / Carers

I am writing to you at the end of a long and busy term, as we move through Advent towards Christmas. There are two events on 9th and 11th December that you may wish to attend. On Wednesday 9th December the school community will hold our Advent Lessons and Carols service at 6pm in the Visitation Church. Please try to attend with your family; it is a lovely service and the only evening of the year when all year groups can meet together as a community. (See school website)

On Friday 11th December Cardinal Wiseman is hosting Radio 4’s Any Questions at 6:30 – 9:00pm. An interesting panel has been assembled by the BBC at a time when there are huge local and national issues to consider (See school website) A few tickets are still available that will be released on a “first come, first served” basis. Please email

When meeting with parents during the September and October information evenings I spoke with confidence about the overall quality of teaching and achievement of our students. Last week we received the data from all schools in England and Wales. It showed that last year’s GCSE students were at the national average level of ability upon arrival at Cardinal Wiseman in Year 7. Five years later their GCSE results were around the top 10% in the country. Unsurprisingly the progress or value added to enable this saw Cardinal Wiseman ranked in the top 2% nationally. (See school website).

Finally, I would like to wish all our students and their families a happy and holy festive season

Best wishes

Michael Kiely
