From the 25th of January to the 29th our Literacy focus is on reading.
From the 25th of January to the 29th our Literacy focus is on reading. Look out for: a competition to match the blurbs and book covers of popular reads from the Library; pupil reading recommendations and a Reading Challenge. As well as the weekly tutor reading sessions and English reading starters, you can expect all of your children's subjects to have a focus on reading activities in class and/or homework during that week.
What can you do to support us in encouraging our young people to read?Read a book together; ask your child to read a passage from the book they are currently reading or tell you about it; tell them about your favourite book ever or read aloud a passage from the book you are reading at the moment. On Youtube you will find audio versions of a range of fiction, wattpad is free on iPhones and many books are free or very cheap to download onto a Kindle. Visit your local Library together and make sure that your child uses the free book token they are given on World Book Day on March 3rd.
"Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body." Sir Richard Steele
When we read, we learn. We are exercising our brains because reading makes us think.
