Sincere condolences on the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II

12th September 2022

Dear Parent/Carer,

It is with deep sadness that we write on behalf of The Cardinal Wiseman School staff and governing body to express our sincere condolences on the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

Her Majesty was an outstanding public servant who gave her life to the service of the Country and also the Commonwealth. She will be remembered as a most cherished and loved Sovereign.

As a school, we came together to celebrate her 70 years of service, a historic milestone. Students remembered her years of service and her family. We prayed together as a whole school community and listened to the words of Cardinal Vincent Nichols. It was a wonderful occasion and one which we will all fondly remember.

We are aware that this sad occurrence may be hard for some of our children to understand, and the staff will be working to support children and provide an opportunity to talk about grief and grieving.

When further details are known, we will be observing a national minutes silence. There is also a bank holiday on the day of her funeral, Monday 19th September and the school will be closed on that day. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has been a constant source of strength for the country and people around the world, and her unswerving commitment to public service during her reign is an example of the finest integrity, humility and compassion. Honouring her memory will continue to inspire us all, and we look forward to coming together as a community over the coming days to pay tribute to her immense contribution to our society and community.

Yours sincerely,

Mr D Coyle
