Debating at SOAS
Four Year 10 students took part in the regional rounds of the International Competition for Young Debaters
Four Year 10 students took part in the regional rounds of the International Competition of Young Debaters at the School of Oriental and African Studies (UL) on Saturday. It was a long day finishing at 5:00pm and amidst a very high standard of debating and some ruthless judging, our teams were enthusiastic to the last.
Most of the schools were independent or grammar schools with the exception of Cardinal Wiseman and Pimlico Academy. The motions were as follows:
- This House would abolish the Euro
- This House would invade Syria
- That House believes that religion does more harm than good
They really were exposed to a high level of debtaing and rose to the occasion magnificently. They were a credit to our school, themselves and their families.
The students taking part were:
- Sebri Addous
- Kevin Loi-Heng
- Thomas Burns
- Demani Jules -Carbon (novice speaker)
