Wiseman Triumph

Wiseman beats Eton in debating competition and our pupils were hailed as the 'nicest' at the competition

Students from Cardinal Wiseman have triumphed in the Eton College Junior Invitational Debating Competition. Year 10 students Aoife MacElhatton and James Golbourn came first in both of their debates, quashing public school opponents from the likes of Wellington and Eton College to top the tab and claim overall victory in the competition.

The competition took place on Monday 18th June with approximately twelve schools taking part, including Slough Grammar, St Bernard's Grammar, The Holt School, St Joseph's College, Blue Coat, Wellington and Eton College. The A team cruised to victory debating the motions: ‘This house would ban home schooling’ and ‘This house would return national treasures to their place of origin’. Other Wiseman students also performed very well, with both the B and C teams ranking in the top 3 in their debates.

Alison Murphy, one of the teachers who accompanied the students to the competition, says, ‘Our host commented on our children's behaviour being 'impeccable' and a teacher from another school said that our pupils were the 'nicest' at the competition. It was a wonderful evening for our students in which our hosts, Eton College, made our school and every other school feel most welcome.’
