Ms Somrah looks back over the year and highlights key dates for next year...

As we come to the end of another academic year we can look back with astonishment at what has been achieved! The Year 13 Ball at Brunel University in May was a wonderful occasion and the students looked fabulous. Congratulations to Harmeet Saini and Gemma Jewargis who were crowned Prom King and Queen! A massive thank you to the Y12 senior prefect team and Mrs Durkin for organising the Ball. The Y13 Leavers assembly was a more ‘sombre’ event where certificates and prizes for effort and achievement were awarded. This was a great opportunity to celebrate the students’ successes and wish them well for the future.

Last week (2nd to 6th July) Y12 students attended Wiseman’s UCAS and Careers Conference. There were many speakers, professionals and presentations – all organised to ensure that our sixth form students are ready for either Higher Education or Apprenticeships. Students were given guidance on writing personal statements and developing their interview technique. Former alumni from Oxford and Cambridge were also able to offer advice to those students applying to Oxbridge and Russell Group universities. The feedback from last week has been incredibly positive with the ‘Professionals’ Day being the most popular – we had architects, journalists, lawyers, medics, marketing, accountants, retail, theatre, banking to name but a few! The week finished off with a ‘University Treasure Hunt’ around central London where students were in teams of 10 and had to complete 10 challenges based on navigating their way around London universities and famous landmarks! This was an amazing day where the students demonstrated real independence and resilience in completing the tasks. Well done to you all!
Finally, thank you to Ms Amanda who has been Acting Head of Year 13 covering Mrs Rose’s maternity leave. Ms Amanda has supported the Y13 students tremendously in this crucial year. Congratulations also to Mr Dann who has been permanently appointed as Deputy Director of Sixth Form (Head of Year 13). Mr Dann has worked tirelessly with Y12 this year, monitoring and tracking their progress and offering help and guidance to the students. Next year, we welcome back Mrs McLoughlin (Head of Year 12) to the team. We are looking forward to also welcoming our new students and promise an exciting wider learning programme as well as pathways in our brand new building!
Good luck to all the students with their exam results.
