You may be aware of the intention of a number of public sector trade unions across the country to strike on Wednesday 30th November 2011
Dear Parent / Carer
You may be aware of the intention of a number of public sector trade unions across the country to strike on Wednesday 30th November 2011, as they did on 30th June 2011, in protest against the Government's plans for public sector pensions. It is illegal for the school to use supply teachers or non-striking teachers to cover the work of colleagues absent due to the strike and so the challenge to maintain a normal school day is significant - we will however look at the issue pragmatically and make a judgement about whether the school is able to remain open to some or all students as soon as we can so that parents can plan accordingly.
Although staff are not obliged to declare their intention to strike in advance of the 30th November 2011 I am pleased to say that teaching unions at the school have been willing to supply the numbers of staff in each union who are intending to strike, by Friday 25th November, following their ballots. This will mean the teaching unions are currently balloting members as part of this proposed action and by the end of this week, I can write to you with a definite answer as to whether or not the school can remain open.
I hope that this advanced warning will minimise the disruption for you.
